Downtown Miami's art district is a haven for some of the country's most infamous graffiti artists and their pieces. During Art Basel 2010, we ran into a few legendary artists from the urban street collective "Primary Flight", while they were spray painting murals on walls throughout the Wynwood area. Needless to say, this inspired Murkem to find some more of the city's hidden graffiti pieces and explore more of the districts underground art scene.

Teaming up with friend and photographer Stephanie Sonju & model Ivanca, Murkem took the girls to some of the cities most secluded spots, bombed with the illest graffiti pieces. Although some of the sites were a bit frightening to visit, they definitely made for a great backdrop for a photoshoot.

Prometheus Springs "WMC" Debut

This year, WMC 2k10 brought an array of amazing dj's & artists down to Miami once again. Everyday and night there was party after party, headlined by collectives of the worlds most sought after dj's. Making it's first appearance this year was the new Capsaicin spiced elixir, Prometheus Springs

Everywhere you turned, artists and music fans alike seemed to have one in their hand. Everyone from Classixx to Drop the Lime to DJ Craze seemed to be raving about the stuff. The drink itself is known to provide a "happy healthy high", so it's no wonder electronic music fans would be drinking it while "raging" to their favorite artists. The drinks main ingredient, capsaicin, which is actually the active component of chili peppers, achieves this "high" by releasing endorphins that boost your mood and also your metabolism. Helping to create the buzz is the drink's marketing director Alexis Mincolla , who is also co-founder of "The Overthrow". "The Overthrow" has been responsible for booking some of the biggest acts and hosting some of the hottest parties this year for the winter music conference. Visit their website here.. The Overthrow. You can find this spicy beverage at a Whole Foods near you and you can learn more about this drink by visiting their website.. www.prometheussprings.com. Be prepared to see plenty more celebrities and rockstars drinking Prometheus Springs in the future, and plenty more WMC's fueled by this drinks fiery flavors.

Beat Street Breakdown by Murkem

Beat street.... All I can say is wow. A slightly dated but nonetheless fascinating snapshot of musical history. Beat Street is an urban musical detailing the roots of hip-hop. Set in early-1980s New York, the film focuses on the lives of a small group of young people setting their experiences against the larger backdrop of the city's burgeoning music scene. The story of up-and-coming DJ Kenny (Guy Davis) and his relationship with jazz musician Tracy (Rae Dawn Chong) may only be a device, but it's surprisingly effective, as is the ultimately tragic tale of graffiti artist Ramon (Jon Chardiet). The movie's real showcases the sounds of the street, so it's full of some of hip-hop's most influential names--Melle Mel, Doug E Fresh, Kool Moe Dee, the Rocksteady Crew, Jazzy Jeff, and Arthur Baker. And while the combination of electro and rapping may sound a little crude to modern ears, there can be no doubt that Beat Street is the sight and sound of history being made.Todays hip hop lacks almost every important element of what real hip hop is. This movie back-spun me to a time when hip hop was dope and larger than life. Hip hop is all about the lifestyle of Graffiti Writers, Break-Dancers, DJ's,MC's, and Beat Boxers. This oldie but goodie had me grooving, and shaking it all over my living room. Hip hop today is truly brain washing our youth, and it's only a matter of time before history comes around and repeats itself. I can't wait!

Style So Chic

CAUTION. My name is Russell Stevens a.k.a. DJ Murkem. I am a DJ/Photographer on the rise. I also am a loyal colleague of Mastermind Nick Flash.

If my fellow collaborator's name is unfamiliar to the unfortunate , let me backspin the wax and drop it again.... DJ Nick Flash. WHOA, look out because this phat cat is anything but calm & collective. Call him Flash, not Garfield, for he never sits around obesely eating. It is even rumored that he doesn't sleep. Flash has been known to be pointed out, like "Where's Waldo" behind the old 1's & 2's, leaking his bone tingling tracks through hipster joints all over South FLA. If this creative dude isn't laying a memorable groove at your local jump off, then Flash is transforming into a networking monster through the Mac Airport Extreme Waves.

Recently, Flash & his thorough crew have mingled their ways into the extravagant life of high fashion, through the hot blog site hipcouture.blogspot.com This site along with Nickflash.net
t are fulfilled with high definition photography, along with links to other raw media. Flash & his diligent associates have inspired me to become a more creative person in a complete 360 degree direction. By steadily updating the blog spot with mind blowing posts daily, this artistic pack will conquer what ever endeavors they are put up against with ease.

I Russell Stevens have been shooting photos for only a few months now. I was wondering when and how I could contribute some media for the blog, with my crazy busy schedule as a DJ. Well, on Wednesday 25th 2009, I found myself DJing an upscale fashion show for a very fabulous boutique by the name of Style So Chic. Style So Chic is located centrally in the warm heart of Abacoa Town Center, in beautiful Jupiter Beach Florida.

The Lolita Jaca Collection available online at Stylesochic.com

Owner Lethey Biggins, along with her knowledgeable staff insisted that I take photos of the stunning Summer 2009, "Lolita Jaca" collection from St. Barths. Sexy, yet conserative dresses and other elegant threads were amazingly displayed throughout Lethey's clothing store. Between spinning cultivating melodies, I some how found the time that was required to capture several stellar shots of the gorgeous models and how the "Lolita Jaca" collection hugged their Coca Cola shaped bodies.

After anxiously speaking with Nick Flash about my awesome day, Flash topped the already epic event by congratulating me on my photos, along with posting them in the clever online journal of our lives. What an inspiring mad scientist of a friend! Right..Right? Inspiration.....Is it in you?

Check out the Style So Chic photos. Enjoy them, and all the other rad links that are happily provided to everyone who shares the same passion for Music, Fashion, Photography, & art in general.
